It is icy cold out this morning. We were worried the pipes may freeze on our propane tank but that did not happen and the furnace is humming along, singing it's cozy mid-winter song.
When I checked our thermometer at 6am, it read –42.6 C. I think that translates almost the same in centigrade and Fahrenheit.
I made a harebrained mistake and did not get the H1N1 vaccination. Fred went for it and silly me, thinking with my 'prairie winter hermit life-style,' I would be safe. Less than a week ago I developed a sore, scratchy throat. In just three days I had a throat, ear and lung infection. This flu is huge. Yesterday, on shaky legs after 5 sleepless, agonizing nights not being able to swallow without excruciating pain in my ears and throat, coughing so hard I thought my head and ears would explode, (gave me a migraine headache as well) Fred took me to see my doctor. During this time, I have also fluctuated between chills and sweats, aches and pains and other not-so-nice symptoms.
Without a throat swab, he said unofficially I have the H1N1 flu with respiratory complications and he wasn't happy with me that I did not have the vaccination.
So, though it is late in the season for vaccination and for those who have not received it, I submit a warning. This flu is huge and it strikes hard and fast. This is what makes it different from regular influenza.
The antibiotic I am taking cost $57 and Fred likes to remind me the vaccination cost nothing.
I wasn't just silly, I was stupid to not accept it.
So, this is how I brought in 2010, almost coughing up a lung and in total misery.
Fred went to bed early and decided that 2010 would look the same in the morning.
Happy New Year, friends.
Thanks for coming to visit me in 2009.
We will have much to talk about in 2010.
